Making a Difference

There are many ways to “make a difference” in our society.  One way is at the most personal and individual level.  By trying to be righteous, honest, and sincere one will impact all who surround him.
Another way is through leadership and example.  In our society, public officials are granted the opportunity, by public attention and authority to actually demonstrate, and enact, initiatives that have a positive impact on society.  Most elected positions are considered to be, and truly are, positions of “power”.  Authority associated with elected office may be a very powerful tool.  It may be used to the detriment or benefit of all of us.  It may be, and has been, used for the sole benefit and profit of those who have chosen to take a selfish path.
Why am I seeking such “power”?  I believe that power granted to elected officials is not for the purposes of control, personal gain, profit, or elevation of self-esteem.  I believe that when one is elected to serve the public, that is exactly what one should do.  THE POWER IS GRANTED TO SERVE THE PUBLIC!.
The selection of our elected officials should be based upon sincerity, honesty, and integrity.  In recent years, our community has seen what teamwork, coordination, and dedication can accomplish.  We have also seen what personal differences, ego, and greed can do to our citizens.  Our citizens have demonstrated their desire for positive and permanent change to our governing system.  My experience has given me knowledge in two areas that most others may not share.  I understand how our governing body should operate and I understand how it actually does operate.  I can be a key factor in building that bridge from the way the governing body does work to the way it should work.  Because I am capable and because I care, I can “make a difference”.
