Tony E. Marquez, Jr. represents Ward 3, which is the central/southeast portion of the City of Las Vegas. He began serving as your city councilman in 1995 until 2000. Then the voters returned him to City Hall in 2002. Councilman Marquez works in Governor Richardson’s Administration as Administrative Division Director overseeing Budgets, Finance and Personnel of the NM Corrections Department. He is Chairman of the City of Las Vegas Finance Committee. He also serves as Chairman of the New Mexico Region II Housing Authority Commission, providing housing solutions in seven Northern Counties. He is a member of the National League of Cities, International Association of Chief of Police, New Mexico Municipal League and National Association of Latino Elected Officials. Councilman Marquez holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. During his first 100 days in office, Councilman Marquez drafted and sponsored; a Code of Ethics for Elected Officials, Governing Body Rules & Procedures, Management and Department Head Evaluation Form & Criteria and he initiated action to streamline council meetings by working with the Mayor in promoting and developing the use of the Consent Agenda – reducing the council meeting time almost in half!
