Water Department Mission Statement

The mission of the City's Water Department  is to provide the finest and most proficient service in the City of Las Vegas and surrounding areas.  It is the Departments intention to continue providing the best quality water and to be ready to respond to any concerns our customers may have in regards to the City's Water System.  The City of Las Vegas Water System has 7,189 residential, commercial, and industrial accounts.

Requirements for New Service

The customer must meet the following requirements in order to obtain water services:

  1. The customer must obtain the appropriate building permit from the Community Development Department located at 1700 N. Grand Ave.

  2. The customer must the submit a request for new service along with the building permit to the Utility Service Center for processing.  (Approval is subject to availability, restriction* and compliance with the City of Las Vegas Water Ordinance.  Approval process may take up to 5 working days.  The Utility Service Center is located at 905 12th St.).

  3. Customer must then submit payment for new service to the Customer Service Cashier located at 1700 N. Grand Ave.  (Payment includes new service fee, processing fee and deposit.  Payment schedule is listed below).

  4. A work order will then be processed for the necessary construction.  Construction start date will vary and is based on availability and severity of the job.

*The City of Las Vegas reserves the right to assess additional fees for street cut, repair and boring (tunneling under street or sidewalk).

*Does Not include CONSERVATION FEE (.26¢/RES., .39¢/SC, $2.66/LC charged monthly).

Water Restrictions Defined

Stage I

1.  Odd numbered addresses water on Sundays and Thursdays only,
     6:00 AM - 10:00 AM or 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM.

2.  Even numbered addresses water on Saturdays and Wednesdays only,
     6:00 AM - 10:00 AM or 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM.

3. NO car washing allowed at residences.

4. NO refilling of swimming pools or spa/hot tubs.

5. NO fountains that DO NOT use re-circulated water.

6. Restaurants are not allowed to serve water unless requested by customer.

 

 

Stage II

1.  Odd numbered addresses water on Tuesdays only, 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM or 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM.

2.  Even numbered addresses water on Mondays only, 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM or 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM.

3. NO car washing allowed at residences.

4. NO refilling of swimming pools or spa/hot tubs.

5. NO fountains that DO NOT use re-circulated water.

6. Restaurants are not allowed to serve water unless requested by customer.

7.  Business that provide services for washing automobiles WILL NOT use City provided water except on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

 

 

Stage III

1.  No outdoor irrigation or watering.

Motels & Hotels

1.  Change of linen only upon customers request.

2.  Swimming pools, hot tubs, ornamental fountains or spas shall be closed. (The City of Las Vegas and Highlands University are exempt).

3.  Must provide water conservation literature at time of registration.

4.  Hotel/Motel manager must provide leak survey to the City of Las Vegas Water Department.

5.  Provide pass to Abe Montoya Recreation Center swimming pool upon Customers request.

Restaurants/Bars

1.  Paper plates, cups and utensils to be used whenever possible.

2. Serve water upon customer request only.

3. Restaurant/Bar Manager must provide leak survey to the City of Las Vegas Water Department.

Laundromats

1.  Will close for two days a week.

2.  Manager must provide schedule of operating hours to the City of Las Vegas Water Conservation Specialist.

3.  Laundromat Manager must provide leak survey to the City of Las Vegas Water Department.

Construction/Concrete Companies

1.  Limited to two days per week, utilizing City of Las Vegas potable water.

2.  Full operations allowed when utilizing alternate source of water.

3.  Construction/Concrete Manager must provide leak survey to the City of Las Vegas Water Department.

Car wash/Automobile Dealers

1.  Shall not use City provided water for washing automobiles on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. (Washing is exempt from these regulations where the health, safety and welfare of the public is contingent upon frequent vehicle cleanings.  Such as, refuse collection trucks and vehicles used to transport food and perishables).

Fire Hydrants

1.  Use of fire hydrant water shall be limited to fire fighting related activities or other activities necessary to maintain the health, safety and welfare of the citizens served by the municipal water system.

 

*The City Manager upon consultation with the Mayor, Water Director, Water Conservation Specialist and Water Treatment Supervisor may declare an emergency and thus impose more stringent restrictions should conditions warrant.  This is subject to modification by formal action by the City Council.
