Upcoming Events
Join Carnegie Library and M.E.C.H.A. de NMHU for a Spring Swap, which will not only feature clothing but also include books and toys of all kinds. This event is for all ages and will be held on Saturday, March 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the NMHU Student Ballroom, located at 800 University Avenue.
The Spring Swap is the perfect way to refresh your wardrobe, books, or toys without breaking the bank. It’s a sustainable, cost-effective, and community-driven alternative to traditional shopping. We will also accept donations of clothing, books, and toys to support the community and ensure plenty of items are available for everyone.
Our Winter Clothing Swap was such a success that we’ve decided to make swaps a recurring seasonal event. Leftover items from our Winter Swap were donated to the Samaritan House Shelter, and children’s clothing and toys were given to the Old Town Mission Community Center. We plan to do the same this time.

Story Time
Please join us at Carnegie Public Library in the Children’s Area for
Children's Story time every Wednesday at 1030am and 330pm.
United World College students and their Faculty Sponsor Margaret Leaf will be onsite helping with story time, arts and crafts, projects and out door activities. This is a community engagement program that UWC students volunteer for. The students will get to know the community and assist in the library's story time. So come to Carnegie for story time, fun and so many other activities.
Thank you
The program is free and open to the public.

Our History

An Original Andrew Carnegie Library, 1904
Carnegie Library is one of the many small-town libraries throughout the United States built with a grant from tycoon and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Designed by Rapp and Rapp architects, modeled after Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello, the library is a fine example of Georgian Revival architecture. It is one of a handful of Carnegie Libraries that still operates like a library.
Carnegie Public Library Oral History Project with Spanish Speaking Old Timers (MSS 776)
A collaboration with University of New Mexico Zimmerman Library and City of Las Vegas Carnegie Library
Zimmerman Library converted Carnegie's audio cassette collection of old Spanish speaking interviews from long-life residents in Las Vegas, surrounding areas and Northern New Mexico. We are grateful for the collaboration with UNM Zimmerman Library to make these audio interviews accessible online to reach more residents in our area and throughout the state and further.
Special thanks to Samuel Sisneros, archivist at the Center for Southwest Research, Zimmerman Library, UNM, for making this possible.
