David Romero, the current Mayor of Las Vegas, New Mexico, took office in December 2024. His extensive experience in public service, education, and community development make him an effective leader for the City of Las Vegas, He has a strong background in public service, having served as a City Councilor and school board member. Romero is deeply involved in local initiatives, including roles on the La Plaza Little League Board, West Las Vegas Head Start Policy Committee, and the New Mexico School Board Association Policy Committee. He also serves on the North
Central New Mexico Economic Development District and the Northern Area Local Workforce Development Board, focusing on education, community development, and regional economic growth.

Robert A. Anaya, City Manager

Robert A. Anaya is a dedicated public servant with a diverse background in education, government, and community development. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Master of Arts in Public Affairs, and has completed the Alternative Teaching Licensure Program in Secondary Education with a concentration in Social Studies.

He most recently served as the Farmington and Santa Fe Center Manager for New Mexico Highlands University, where he also led as President of the NMHU Staff Senate. His broad professional experience includes work in education as a substitute and student teacher, as well as technical roles such as apprentice electrician and propane technician. He also worked for the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

Anaya has held several key positions in Santa Fe County government, contributing to the Housing Authority, Community Development, Health and Economic Development, Senior Services, and County Fair Operations. In addition to his public service roles, he is a ranch owner and a former Santa Fe County Commissioner.

Robert A. Anaya is known for his collaborative leadership style and strong commitment to serving the public. With deep roots in the community and a wide range of experience, he is well-positioned to foster cooperation across city departments and promote meaningful progress throughout the community.

Amanda Salas is the Mayor's Liaison/Public Information Officer for the City of Las Vegas, where she plays a key role in ensuring effective communication between the city and the public, managing media relations, and providing critical information during emergencies. With a strong background in public service, Amanda works closely with the Executive Office and city divisions to facilitate transparency and community engagement.

Amanda holds a Master’s degree in Public Affairs with a focus on Political and Government processes, a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Minor in History from New Mexico Highlands University, and an A.A.S. in Nursing from Luna Community College. She is a proud 2004 graduate of West Las Vegas Schools and has deep roots in the community she serves.

Before her current role, Amanda was the Planning & Zoning Director for San Miguel County, New Mexico, where she managed land use regulations, project planning, and zoning compliance. She collaborated with local stakeholders and agencies, playing a pivotal role in disaster recovery efforts, including those following the 2022 Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon wildfire and the 2024 flood crisis.

Her professional experience spans a variety of fields, including local government, higher education, healthcare, election campaigns, media, and retail. This broad expertise has given her a well-rounded understanding of public service and a commitment to effective governance. Amanda remains dedicated to fostering transparency, accountability, and active involvement in local governance.
