Mayor of the City of Las Vegas

Mayor Romero assumed office in December 2024, bringing with him decades of hands-on experience in public service, education, and community development. A lifelong resident of Las Vegas and a proud graduate of Robertson High School, he is deeply rooted in the community he now leads. He was officially-elected Mayor in November 2025.

His commitment to education led him to serve on the local school board for West Las Vegas, where he became a strong advocate for equitable access to high-quality education and policies that support both students and educators. Romero continues on in his public service career as a City Councilor, where he has continued to work to enhance municipal services, upgrade infrastructure, and improve public safety.

In addition to his elected roles, Mayor Romero has long been a champion for youth and working families through active participation in local and state initiatives. He serves on the La Plaza Little League Board, fostering leadership and teamwork in young athletes, and is a dedicated member of the West Las Vegas Head Start Policy Committee, supporting early childhood education and family engagement efforts. As a member of the New Mexico School Board Association Policy Committee, he contributes to the development of statewide education policies, with a focus on addressing the unique needs of rural and underserved communities.

Regionally, Mayor Romero plays a pivotal role in driving economic development and workforce advancement. He is a board member of both the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District and the Northern Area Local Workforce Development Board. In these capacities, he works closely with leaders from across the region to attract new investments, create job opportunities, and expand workforce training programs that equip residents with the skills needed in today’s evolving economy.

Mayor Romero’s leadership is grounded in a vision of sustainable growth, inclusive policymaking, and community empowerment through education and opportunity. His dedication to service reflects a lifelong commitment to the people and future of Las Vegas, New Mexico.
