PSA 10/20/2026 7:00 p.m.: Remembering Anna Gonzales and Her Legacy of Kindness, Laughter, and Service

The City of Las Vegas recently lost a beloved former employee, Anna Gonzales, whose sudden passing has deeply saddened those who had the opportunity to know and work alongside her.
Anna dedicated 12 years of service to the City of Las Vegas in the City Clerk's Office before leaving in 2024. During that time, she became more than a coworker. She became a friend and an important part of a close-knit work family.
Those who knew Anna remember her as quiet by nature but always positive, cheerful, and a joy to be around. Her kindness, dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression.
"Anna was part of our work family. We were a tight-knit department. She was always cheerful, dedicated, and a joy to be around. When she laughed, you could hear her down the hallways, and it was always so cheerful," said City Clerk Casandra Fresquez. "It was an honor to work alongside Anna for 12 years. If I had to describe Anna in one word, it would be 'genuine.'"
Deputy City Clerk Danielle Sena shared similar memories. "I had the privilege of working with and knowing Anna while in the City Clerk's Office. Anna was a very caring and loving person who touched the lives of many. She was always there to help anyone who needed it," said Sena.
At last week’s City Council meeting, Mayor David Romero observed a moment of silence in honor of Anna. He remembered her as a dedicated and exemplary employee who took pride in her work, remained focused on her responsibilities, and carried out her duties with professionalism and dedication.
Former Las Vegas Mayor Matt Martinez remembered Anna's kindness and respect for others. "Anna was a kind and thoughtful person, always had a smile, and was very respectful of all those she worked with and worked for. Such a kind spirit," said Martinez.
City Councilor Barbara Casey, who worked with Anna for approximately four years, remembered her dedication, professionalism, and exceptional work ethic. "Anna was a very diligent employee who took pride in her work. Whether handling IPRA requests, locating records, or completing assigned tasks, her work was always thorough and precise. She was professional, dependable, and never complained. Anna always did her best, had excellent people skills, and was a pleasure to work with. I am heartbroken to learn of her passing," Casey shared.
Shawni J. Muniz, Administrative Assistant II with the City of Las Vegas Utilities Department, remembered Anna's humility and willingness to help. "Anna was a very good and humble person. She was very professional and always willing to help everyone. Her presence made the City a better place to work," said Muniz.
For Raelene Gonzales, Office Manager for the Las Vegas Police Department, Anna's kindness and faith left a meaningful memory. "She was truly a beautiful person inside and out. Anna remained positive even during difficult times. Her faith was beautiful, and she was never afraid to share it," Gonzales recalled.
When Gonzales transferred to the Finance Department and experienced a difficult time, Anna offered encouragement through a handwritten Post-it note that read, "I don't rely on others to make me happy... my happiness comes from God!"
Gonzales shared the note on Facebook, describing it as a message from a little angel. She still keeps the original note inside her Bible as a reminder of God's love and Anna's thoughtfulness. "Anna was one of the kindest and most wonderful people. She knew her job well and was always willing to help anyone in need. She is truly going to be missed. People like Anna Gonzales you hold close to your heart forever," Gonzales shared.
While her passing was unexpected, the memories she leaves behind remind us that the greatest impact we have on others often comes from the simplest things, often a smile, a laugh, a kind word, or simply being there when someone needs us.
Anna's 12 years of dedicated service will always be appreciated, but it is the person she was and the way she made others feel that will be remembered most. The City of Las Vegas extends its heartfelt condolences to Anna's family, friends, former coworkers, and all those whose lives she touched.
