The City of Las Vegas Police Department (LVPD), in partnership with the Senior Center, hosted a warm and well-attended “Coffee with a Cop” gathering this past Tuesday, bringing officers and senior community members together for conversation, connection, and a shared morning of community engagement.

The event created an open and welcoming space where seniors and officers could sit down together, share stories, ask questions, and get to know one another in a relaxed setting. Throughout the morning, officers moved from table to table, taking time to listen and engage, while seniors shared their experiences and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to connect directly with law enforcement.

One of the highlights of the event was a friendly game of pool between Police Chief Caleb Marquez and a senior participant. The game came down to the final 8-ball, with the senior ultimately winning in a lighthearted and memorable moment that added to the sense of fun and community.

Chief Marquez reflected on the event, stating, “It was great to see officers and residents sitting together and having real conversations. Our newer officers did an outstanding job engaging with our seniors, listening to their stories, and building connections. Moments like this are important for strengthening trust and relationships in our community. We look forward to doing more events like this in the future.”

Community Services Director June Tafoya-Cordova also shared her thoughts, saying, “It was truly wonderful to see such a strong turnout at the Senior Center. The room was full of conversation, laughter, and connection between seniors and officers. Our seniors really appreciated the opportunity to spend time with the Police Department in such a welcoming environment, and the Senior Center is always happy to host events like this.”

City Manager Robert A. Anaya, City Councilwoman Barbara Perea-Casey, and Councilman Marvin Martinez also attended the event in support of ongoing community engagement efforts. The City extends its sincere thanks to Walmart for donating refreshments, as well as recognition of LVPD Office Manager Raelene Gonzales and LVPD Administrative Assistant Shanise Gallegos for their efforts in helping organize a successful and meaningful event.
