- PSA 7/22/2025 4:30 p.m.: City of Las Vegas – Weeds, Litter, and Property Maintenance Reminder
Under City Ordinance § 290-4, property owners—whether the lot is occupied or vacant—must not allow weeds to grow taller than 4 inches or allow any accumulation of weeds and litter. This applies to your property and surrounding areas including the space between your property line and the middle of the alley, the curb, sidewalks, and up to 10 feet beyond your property line where no curb exists. Keeping these areas clean and maintained is the owner’s responsibility. Under City Ordinance § 377-26, it is considered a nuisance for any tree branches or shrubbery growing on your property—or in the parkway in front of your property—to extend into or over sidewalks or streets in a way that interferes with pedestrians, vehicles, or other traffic. All branches and limbs must be trimmed to provide at least 7 feet of clearance above sidewalks and streets to ensure safe and unobstructed passage. Property owners are responsible for maintaining this clearance to keep sidewalks and streets safe for everyone. If your trees are touching or near power lines, do not attempt to trim them yourself. Please contact PNM for assistance at (505) 241-2700 to ensure safety and proper handling. Violations carry mandatory fines under § 290-99(A): 1st offense: $500 2nd offense: $750 3rd and subsequent offenses: $1,000 Each day the violation continues is a separate offense. Code Enforcement will be out in neighborhoods making contact with those in violation. Failure to comply may result in cleanup by the City, billing for the service, and a lien placed on the property. Remember: Trim, Trash It, or Ticket! Keep your property safe and avoid fines by trimming weeds and trees, removing trash, and maintaining your lot. For questions or to report violations, contact Code Enforcement at (505) 454-1401 or (505)429-9543.
