FEMA Hosts First Public Meeting to Collect Comments About Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act Regulations
SANTA FE, New Mexico – On Thursday, Nov. 17, FEMA will host the first of multiple public meetings as part of its 60-day public comment period to collect feedback on the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act interim regulations.
The Act provides $2.5 billion to compensate New Mexicans impacted by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire and subsequent flooding. The regulations will guide the claims process and describe necessary documentation, evaluation criteria, and available funding and provide for appeal rights, arbitration and judicial review.
In addition to the public meetings, comments can be submitted at Federalregister.gov (docket number: FEMA-2022-0037). The public comment period runs through Jan 13, 2023. Comments submitted online will be publicly available.

Notes: Registration is not required to attend. The meeting will begin with an introduction of the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office Regulations and a presentation about the regulations, followed by the recording of verbal comments. Comments submitted at the meeting will become part of the public record.
