PSA 1/23/2026: Keeping Las Vegas Safe: LVFD Introduces New Dual-Purpose Rescue Truck

After more than a year and a half of planning, customization, and build time, the Las Vegas Fire Department has taken delivery of a 2024 Ford Skeeter F-550 Type 5 Rescue from Siddons-Martin Emergency Group, made possible through State Fire Funding. Upon arrival, LVFD’s Red Team was the first to scout and evaluate the apparatus, gaining hands-on familiarity before it was placed into service.
“We’re excited to add this new piece of equipment to our fleet,” said Fire Chief Steven Spann. “With the changing landscape following the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire, our community continues to face increased risks from wildfires, post-fire flooding, and difficult terrain. This apparatus gives our crews the tools they need to respond quickly and safely to a wider range of emergencies, helping us better protect lives, property, and our community in today’s environment.”
Built for Northern New Mexico’s rugged terrain, the Skeeter features increased storage, military-grade tires, and advanced off-road capability. Designed for initial attack on wildfires, it can reach areas standard fire engines cannot while also serving as a rescue and medical response unit, allowing firefighters to reach patients faster in difficult terrain. With four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, and specialized off-road suspension, the Skeeter provides a cost-effective, dual-purpose solution for wildfire suppression, rescue, and disaster response, including high-water and flood operations.
“The purchase of this Type 5 brush truck is a critical investment in the safety of our community,” said Mayor David Romero. “Built for our local terrain, it gives our firefighters the tools they need to respond quickly and protect lives and property, and it reflects our commitment to those who put themselves in harm’s way every day.”
