The City of Las Vegas is pleased to announce that the Las Vegas Amtrak Station will soon receive major accessibility improvements. This project, in partnership with Amtrak, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), and the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF), is part of a nationwide effort to make train travel safer and more accessible for everyone.
The Southwest Chief stops daily at Las Vegas Train Station, and these upgrades will make the station easier to use for all passengers, including those with disabilities. Improvements include:
A new 730-foot concrete boarding platform with smooth, accessible pathways to the station and parking
Bright, energy-efficient LED lighting along the platform
Detectable warning strips for passenger safety
Clear signage to help travelers navigate the station
A new drainage system under the platform to prevent flooding
Replacement of pavers around the historic station building
Design work was completed in December 2025 by William Sale Partnership (WSP), a leading architecture and engineering firm. Construction, led by KCI Construction Company, will begin in Spring 2026 and is expected to be finished by Spring 2027.
The City of Las Vegas is proud to bring these accessibility upgrades to our historic station, ensuring a safer, more inclusive, and modern travel experience for all passengers. These improvements reflect our commitment to making Las Vegas welcoming, connected, and accessible to everyone, while contributing to the nationwide effort led by Amtrak to enhance accessibility at stations across the country. They also help preserve and strengthen the essential service provided by the Southwest Chief, which continues to play a vital role in connecting Las Vegas to the national rail network.
