Water delivery to homes experiencing complete outages began early this morning and will continue throughout the day. Our team is actively working through a long list, and we ask for your continued patience as we address each area. All reports have been logged, and staff is aware of the areas in need. They will continue working through entire street blocks to ensure water delivery, even if there has not been direct contact from residents.
The process of managing water pressure as it is gradually reintroduced into the system is slow and delicate. It is important not to rush this process, as doing so could result in a water hammer.
A water hammer is a sudden surge of pressure that can cause significant damage to the water infrastructure. To avoid this, our water distribution team will be opening valves and flushing fire hydrants throughout the city to properly direct the water and release trapped air from the system. If you see this activity happening, please know it’s a necessary part of the process.
Our staff is working tirelessly to restore water access and resolve the issue. Please be understanding and kind to them. They are simply doing their jobs, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication. We are committed to getting through this together and will continue to provide updates throughout the day. We are also actively exploring additional relief options.
Important Reminder for Residents: As the water flows back into the system, please report any unusual pooling of water that could signal a leak by calling 505-617-6579. We ask that residents who still have access to running water limit usage to essential needs only, including consumption, personal hygiene, medical needs, and meal preparation.
