Update #9: Ongoing Water Treatment Efforts, Increased Supply

The Water Treatment Plant is still actively producing water and will continue to do so, but it is not currently meeting the demand. To help bridge the gap, numerous semi-trucks will be entering our community to provide additional water to the plant from local, state-approved water sources. Until the water flow becomes more consistent, residents can expect fluctuations in water pressure, including water discoloration.

Some areas of the community are still experiencing water outages, and we anticipate further improvements as more water is introduced to the system and pressure continues to increase. Ongoing repairs and upgrades are addressing the water leak discovered this past weekend. Over the past two months, the total cost of repairs to the plant has exceeded one million dollars, and additional repairs will be required due to aging infrastructure. Water pressure will continue to be carefully managed to avoid a water hammer, a slow but necessary process.

A water hammer is a sudden surge in pressure that can cause significant damage to the waterline infrastructure, so it must be avoided. As part of this process, our water distribution team will continue to open water valves throughout the city and flush fire hydrants to properly direct the water and relieve air from the system. You may have already noticed this, and please understand that it is a necessary part of the process. Please report any unusual pooling of water that could signal a leak by calling 505-454-1401.

________________

Mandatory Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for all water users in the City of Las Vegas. For more information on the requirements of this order, please go to www.cdc.gov. Attached is additional information regarding mandatory boil advisories from the site.

________________

For those still experiencing water outages, please DO NOT leave faucets open to avoid wasting water. Some residents have discovered flooding in their homes because they were not home at the time.

________________

For residents with active water service, we ask that you continue to conserve water so the system can catch up and provide enough pressure to reach areas currently experiencing outages.

________________

A mandatory fire watch order remains in effect for all commercial businesses with fire suppression systems that are open and operating. The necessary paperwork can be found on our website at www.lasvegasnm.gov, under the Las Vegas Fire Department section or in the Public Service Announcements.
