PSA 7/20/2026 11:00 a.m.: Honoring the Life and Service of Retired Captain John P. Trujillo

The measure of a life in public service is found not only in years, ranks, or titles, but in the lives protected, the people guided, and the community made stronger. The City of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Police Department honor the distinguished service and enduring legacy of retired Captain John P. Trujillo, who passed away on June 22, 2026.

Captain Trujillo retired from the Las Vegas Police Department in 2011 after 23 years of dedicated service to the community. Throughout his distinguished career, he served as a Police Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant of Investigations, and ultimately Captain of Investigations. Although many years had passed since his retirement, the impact of his service remained deeply rooted in the department and the community he faithfully protected.

He carried each role with honor, integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those he served. Beyond the badge, John was a trusted friend, mentor, colleague, father, grandfather, and uncle whose warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. A badge may be set aside and a career may come to an end, but a legacy built through courage, character, and devotion continues through the officers he guided, the people he helped, and the lasting difference he made throughout Las Vegas.

The City of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Police Department extend their deepest condolences to Captain Trujillo’s family, friends, former colleagues, and everyone whose life was touched by his service and character. We also offer our heartfelt gratitude to his family for sharing him with our community and supporting his commitment to serve and protect. His sacrifice was also theirs, and his service will always be remembered with honor and appreciation.
