Cornerstones Community Partnership and the North Central New Mexico Economic Development Department are partnering with Luna Community College to introduce students to a GIS mapping class. As part of the course, a handful of students and City staff members will conduct on-the-ground surveys in three areas of Las Vegas focused on identifying vacant properties.
The field survey will take place on the morning of July 15, 2026. A handful of students and City staff will be assigned to each survey area. Participants will observe properties from the street only and will not enter any private properties. This hands-on exercise will provide students with real-world experience collecting information and entering data into GIS mapping software.
Please use caution in the survey areas and be aware of students and City staff working along roadways. Participants will be identifiable by safety vests.
Survey areas include:
Area 1: Downtown Work Area
The general work areas include Plaza Street and the Plaza Park area, North Gonzales Street, Bridge Street, Santa Fe Street, Church Street, Santa Ana Street, Valencia Street, Bernalillo Street, New Mexico Avenue, and San Pedro Street.
Area 2: New Mexico Avenue Area
The general work areas include New Mexico Avenue, Armijo Street, Montezuma Street, Lopez Street, Rio Arriba Street, and Bernalillo Street.
Area 3: South Downtown Work Area
The general work areas include Moreno Street, Socorro Street, Grant Street, South Pacific Street, South Gonzales Street, Paseo de las Escuelas, and New Mexico Avenue.
The City of Las Vegas appreciates the partnership between Cornerstones Community Partnership, the North Central New Mexico Economic Development Department, and Luna Community College in providing valuable hands-on learning opportunities. This
collaboration supports community planning efforts, builds local skills, and contributes to a stronger future for Las Vegas.
