PSA 6/27/2025 4:00 p.m.: City Invests in New Excavator to Boost Infrastructure Work

Las Vegas, NM - The City of Las Vegas Streets Department is proud to announce the arrival of a CAT 308 CR Mini Excavator, delivered this week to support vital infrastructure work throughout the community. This important addition was made possible thanks to the support and funding allocation from Mayor David Romero, who directed resources to procure the equipment.

Each city councilor and the mayor receive a designated amount of funding to invest in smaller projects within their respective wards. Mayor Romero prioritized this purchase to assist with long-term recovery efforts and essential public works projects, especially in areas affected by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire.

“This excavator is a significant asset that will help us address serious drainage issues that have become increasingly difficult since the fire,” said Arnold Lopez, Public Works Director. “The Streets Department is extremely grateful to have this opportunity. Not only will this equipment make our work more efficient, it will also help us better serve the needs of our community.”

In addition to the excavator, the department is also expecting delivery of a forest mulcher attachment, which is designed to clear vegetation and trees by shredding and mulching. This will further enhance the department’s ability to manage public lands and reduce fire risks.

More updates will follow as this new equipment is put to use improving the City of Las Vegas, as well as updates on how each city councilor is utilizing their ward funds to support local projects and community needs.
