1/22/2026 NEWS RELEASE: Rapid Response from the Las Vegas Fire Department Prevents Spread of Apartment Fire

On Thursday, January 22, 2026, at approximately 7:50 a.m., the Las Vegas Fire Department Green Team responded to reports of black smoke coming from a two-story apartment complex on Mountain View Drive. Fire crews arrived within minutes and found a structure fire with heavy smoke and flames in a second-floor apartment unit. Primary and secondary searches were conducted to ensure no individuals were inside. The fire was quickly contained to the apartment of origin, preventing it from spreading to other units or nearby structures. All residents were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported among residents or fire personnel.

Approximately 15 residents were temporarily displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross was contacted and will be assisting those affected to find shelter. The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.

Fire Lieutenant Abel Harris praised the response efforts. “I am extremely proud of my crew,” stated Lt. Harris. “They acted swiftly and professionally, and their quick response made all the difference. The situation had the potential to be much worse.” He noted that crews worked efficiently under challenging conditions, navigating heavy smoke, low visibility, and freezing temperatures to contain the fire quickly. Coordination among team members, combined with immediate action upon arrival, helped protect neighboring units and prevent structural damage. Interim Deputy Chief Daniel Atencio emphasized that the response exemplified the department’s training, preparedness, and commitment to community safety.
